Week 17: Live/Jump Loft

17/52

It’s official. I’m an Oakland resident. I handed over my San Francisco keys less than an hour ago. But I’m not only living in Oakland, I’ll be jumping and snapping jumpers there too. The “Anti-Gravity Chamber” in San Francisco has been upgraded to this, my “Live/Jump Loft.” Two stories, 1000 square feet, one bedroom, one and a half bathrooms, and one big blank canvas for photography.

This week’s shot is a companion/contrast shot for my Week 2 photograph.

A live-work [jump] space combines personal living space and professional work[jump]space in such a way that neither is compromised. One of the most common uses for a live-work [jump] space is an artist’s studio. In fact, many live-work [jump] spaces are marketed specifically towards professional artists. The reasoning is pretty straightforward — artistic endeavors such as installation and photography require large work[jump]spaces, but the artist may want to live close to the project.
